A Nevada woman was killed in a rural Boone County crash over the weekend after authorities say the vehicle she was a passenger in was struck on the driver’s side.
According to reports from the Iowa State Patrol, Alyssa Carol August, 26, was riding in a Chevy Malibu with Phillip James Fleming, 27, also of Nevada, at about 12:07 a.m. Sunday. Fleming’s vehicle was southbound on U.S. Highway 169 south of Ogden when it was struck at the 280th Street intersection by an eastbound GMC truck driven by Jordan Dean Ihel, 24, of Polk City, who failed to stop at a stop sign.
Reports from the Iowa State Patrol show that August was not wearing a seatbelt.
Fleming, who was wearing a seatbelt, was airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines and as of late Monday morning, Mercy Spokesman Gregg Lagan said Fleming was listed in fair condition.
Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Nathan Ludwig said that no charges have been filed in the case yet.
Ludwig said that Ihel’s speed was unknown at the time as he is waiting on the technical investigation.
