Art show to benefit HCHC scholarships
MOUNT PLEASANT — Friends of HCHC will feature a night of art and culture from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 20 at the Iowa Wesleyan Art Gallery in Mount Pleasant.
The Colors of Summer will showcase local artists through a variety of artistic media – oils, pastels, acrylics, watercolors, photography, print, sculpture, fabric art and wearable art.
Some art will be for sale. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Friends of HCHC Scholarship Fund and other programming. Special musical guest will be Cindy Dorrell.
Tickets are $25 each, available at the HCHC Gift Show and Browns Shoe Fit in Mount Pleasant, and include appetizers, wine and non-alcoholic beverages.

HCHC to host gift shop sale
MOUNT PLEASANT — The Friends of HCHC Gift Shop will raise money for scholarships at its Summer Lobby Sale from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Henry County Health Center lobby in Mount Pleasant. Clothing and many other items will be for sale.

GRHS offers diabetes classes
WEST BURLINGTON — Great River Diabetes Education Program offers four-week group diabetes classes each month.
The next morning series will be 10 a.m. to noon Thursdays beginning July 12. Afternoon classes are 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Mondays beginning July 16.
Group diabetes classes are for people newly diagnosed, making a change in treatment or having complications or concerns. A physician referral for diabetes education is required.
Class topics include: proper eating for diabetes; managing blood sugars; medicines; diabetes-related health problems, and exercise.
Diabetes educators will assess needs for specific information and skills, teach self-care and provide continuing help. Most insurance companies cover the fee for the class series. A family member or friend is encouraged to attend at no additional cost.

Immunization clinic planned
FORT MADISON — Lee County Health Department will offer free children’s immunizations from noon to 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the health department, No. 3 John Bennett Drive, Fort Madison, on the old Iowa State Penitentiary grounds.
Immunizations are offered on a walk-in basis for children who are uninsured or have Iowa Medicaid/MCO or private insurance not covering vaccines.
Free lead testing for ages 6 months to 6 years also is offered.
