At approximately 1:06 a.m. on Wednesday morning, Des Moines Police officers responded to a call to investigate shots fired in the area of 70th and Aurora where they found an Urbandale Police officer had been shot. At 1:26 a.m. a Des Moines police officer was found to have been shot at the intersection of Merle Hay Road and Sheridan Drive.

Both the Urbandale police officer, identified as Justin Martin, and the Des Moines police officer, identified as Sgt. Anthony Beminio, are deceased.

The shootings appear to have been "ambush-style" attacks, according to a press release from the Des Moines Police Station.

The suspect was identified as Scott Michael Greene, a 46-year-old resident of Urbandale. He was later located in Dallas County and taken into custody, but not yet charged, by the Dallas County Sheriff's Department and the Iowa State Patrol around 9 a.m.

According to Des Moines Public Information Officer, Sgt. Paul Parizek, Greene was walking down a rural road in Dallas County when he flagged down a Department of Natural Resources employee and asked them to call 9-11 due to a non-specific medical condition. He gave the employee his drivers' license and that's when representatives from the Dallas County Sheriff's Department and the Iowa State Patrol went to the scene.

An ambulance was called and he was taken to the hospital in Des Moines to be checked out.
