FRK engineering gave a cost estimate of $759,405 for Phase II of the stadium renovation.

This year, the A-D-M football team took to a brand new field of synthetic turf, surrounded by a brand new track and in front of a new scoreboard and sound system. That was just Phase I of the ongoing stadium renovation project.

At their regular meeting on Monday night, the A-D-M School Board voted on a schematic design for Phase II of the project, created and presented by FRK Architects + Engineers. Phase II will include the construction of a building in the northwest corner of the stadium in Adel that will house the public restrooms, concession stands with storage and a walk-in refrigerator, a conference room, referee changing rooms and a ticket office.

The design is not yet set in stone and could still see some minor changes, but for what was designed, FRK estimated the cost of the A-D-M School District at $759,405 for the 2,640-square-foot building.

Those costs include $140 per square foot of the building which comes to $369,600 for the building cost, $220,000 for siteworks cost, $88,440 for soft costs at 15 percent and $81,365 for contingency costs at 12 percent.

Earlier discussions about the Phase II construction also included the possibility of two locker rooms for the football teams and more but they decided to go without them to keep the total cost down, says A-D-M Superintendent Greg Dufoe.

The option that was presented includes wood frame on masonry plinth, commercial-grade MEPT and finishes, asphalt shingle roofing and a relocation of the driveway that goes into the stadium.

Vassil Petrov of FRK Architects + Engineers said that there are still some things that could change as the process continues, although he said he doesn't expect any major changes to the floor plan that was presented.

In addition to approving the schematic design, the board approved a topographic survey and a geotechnical survey to be done in the area around the stadium where the new building will go. The topographic survey will cost $2,800 and be done by Bishop Engineering and the geotechnical survey will cost $1,900 and be done by Allender Butzke Engineers Inc.

The proposed schedule from FRK shows that they will accept bids for the construction starting in February, 2017, pre order materials in March and begin construction in April. The stadium would be ready for occupancy by A-D-M in September, shortly after the first home football game, scheduled for Aug. 25, 2017.

Planning for Phase III of the project, which includes improvements to the baseball and softball fields just outside of the school, will begin in March of 2017 and the construction could be complete by December, 2018, according to the proposed schedule from FRK.
