The Woodward-Granger School District is not holding classes on Friday due to a mechanical failure in the heating unit at the Middle School/High School building, the School District's Facebook page said Thursday night.

Because the issue affects over half of the students in the district, school officials decided to cancel classes for everyone in the district.

Another post from the school district indicated that a main gasket ruptured in their heat exchanger for the high school and in the process, water damaged control panels for the Middle School heating system.

The home basketball games against Van Meter will be played as scheduled since the High School gym is on a different heating system than the rest of the school and it was not impacted by the failure.

Crews will be working to fix the issue over the weekend and a decision will be made on Sunday as to whether or not there will be school on Monday. If parents and students don't hear anything by Monday, they are to expect to have school as regularly scheduled.
