Our Color Craze Family Reading Program is in full swing and we are having so much fun helping people beat the winter blues with great books! There is still time to sign-up your family for a chance to win some great prizes.
The Grand Finale of our program is a Family Game Night and Pizza Party. Come to the library on Thursday, Feb. 23 and play with us! The fun starts at 6 p.m. in our reading room by the fireplace! This year’s Grand Prize is a family gift certificate to Kil’n Time Studio.
Join us for our second annual For the Love of Soup fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For a free will donation, you can taste all the soup you’d like and use your pocket change to vote for your favorites. Desserts will be provided by the Friends, and the winner of the contest will get a fun travelling trophy and all proceeds will benefit the Friends of Adel Public Library Foundation.
Children’s activities are a great escape from the winter blues! In addition to our regular weekly activities we have four special kids’ events in February:
We’ll have a Lego League on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 2 p.m.
Be our Valentine? A special Valentine’s Day themed story time will be on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m.
The always exciting Critter Cindy from Dallas County Conservation will host story time on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 10:30 a.m.
The library will have an Early Out Movie for all school-aged children on Wednesday, Feb. 22 when we’ll be watching “The Secret Life of Pets” on our big screen at 2 p.m.
Our Book Clubs are always welcoming new people to our fun-filled discussions. The Brown Bag Book Club meets on Thursday, Feb. 9 at Noon while the Evening Book Club will meet on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. and books for each group are always available at the library. This month we are reading the 2017 ALL Iowa Reads selection “Bottomland” by Michelle Hoover.
The library has been blessed to receive a generous grant from the Adel Rotary Club which has allowed us to purchase extra shelving in our fiction sections, several new staff computers, our first in 10 years, and 16 Playaway Launchpads. These tablets are designed for library circulation and pre-loaded with learning apps and games grouped by subject area, theme, age, and grade level. The launchpads have been widely popular and we’re excited to see them in the hands of so many patrons as they make learning fun!
Your library will be closed in observance of Presidents’ Day on Monday, February 20th. Information about the Adel Public Library and all of our clubs, events, and programs is available on our website at www.adelpl.org.
