Joshua Smith has resigned his position as Waukee High School’s assistant principal.

A media statement from the Waukee Community School District says that an “internal investigation” was launched after administration for the school and the district were notified of a “personal situation.”

Waukee Police Reports show that Smith reported extortion to them on Jan. 25 and that two 17-year-old juveniles, both male, were arrested on Jan. 26 and Jan. 27 and charged with extortion.

The statement says that the school district is not authorized to publicly share the details about personnel disciplinary action since the information is confidential.

Waukee High School families and district staff were notified of the situation Friday morning in an effort to “assist in maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment.”
