Mara Nevins, 4, of Adel, is currently undergoing radiation treatment for Anaplastic Ependymoma WHO, Grade III, a type of brain cancer, On Saturday, Amvets Post 2 and Ruth Griswold Nevins will host a fundraiser in Des Moines.

Hosted at Amvets Post 2, located at 2815 Fifth Avenue, Des Moines, the benefit will take place from noon until 5 p.m. on Saturday and will feature beef burgers, an auction, a bake sale and music.

Mara, daughter of Lyle and Brandi Nevins (Larsen/Freestone) of Adel, has been undergoing the radiation treatment in Iowa City five days a week since Dec. 28 after having surgery on Dec. 5.

According to a flyer the surgeons at the University of Iowa Hospital were able to remove 70 percent of the tumor with the surgery.
