The Dallas County 4-H and Clover Kid Clubs have been working on a service project to support our local food pantries and Friday Food Backpack programs.
The big finale to this project will take place on Saturday, March 4 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Dallas County Fairgrounds in Adel, Iowa. The public is welcome and encouraged to bring nonperishable food and monetary donations, in addition to learning about food insecurity and what we all can do to help.
The event will be a time to drop off and sort donations. Educational displays will be offered by The Food Bank of Iowa, Dallas County Public Health, ISU Extension and Outreach and others. 4-H and Clover Kids will be doing presentations and displays on food insecurity in Dallas County.
9.3 percent of Dallas County residents experience food insecurity. Between February and October of 2016, 2,309 households were served by Dallas County food pantries. The Friday Food Backpack programs distributed 6,198 backpacks of kid-friendly, healthy food in the 2015-2016 school year.
The Food Drive is sponsored by ISU Extension and Outreach in Dallas County. For more information, please contact Lisa Mickelson at 515-993-4281 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
