Summer Reading is upon us! Sign-up for Summer Reading at Grimes Public Library starts Monday June 5th. We have reading challenges for all ages, young to young at heart! Our schedule is also packed with fun performers and activities. Stop by the library to grab a calendar, sign up for Summer Reading, and sneak a peek at our grand prizes!


5/20 10 a.m. until noon


Baby Fair - Join us at the Grimes Public Library to learn about resources in Grimes and around the Metro for new and expecting parents. Find local midwives, doulas, and pediatricians. Learn how to properly install a car seat. Meet book vendors, photographers, local parenting bloggers, and more - all in one place! Free book for the first 70 families and free admission for everyone!


Classes provided by Mercy Childbirth Educators and Doula Services, Grimes Library, and Family Tree Yoga and Massage.

Teen Summer Reading Volunteer Training - Wanting to volunteer for our Summer Reading Program? Summer Reading volunteers must be 14-17 years old and must complete our 30-minute volunteer training. Stop by any one of our 6 training sessions this month to get ready for summer!

Garden with the Masters - Interested in a butterfly garden? Join Master Gardener Mamta to learn about gardening to attract butterflies and bees!

Tail Waggin’ Readers - Register for a 20-minute time slot to read aloud to a therapy dog partner. 15 minutes of reading, five minutes of play!

Adult Coloring - Join us for a relaxing coloring session for adults only. Supplies and light snacks provided.

Red Cross Babysitting Course - Youth ages 11-15 years old gain the knowledge and confidence to care for infants and school-aged children. A $35 class fee is due prior to class, and a sack lunch brought that day. Please register.

Adult Book Club - June’s selection is The Butterfly and the Violin by Kristy Cambron.

Family Magic Show - Professional magician, Jonathan May’s jokes and slights of hand will mesmerize and bring a little magic to your summer. All ages.

Building Blunders with the Science Center of Iowa - Instead of seeing mistakes as failure, engineers use them to learn and build even better things! Join the Science Center of Iowa as we learn about some famous building blunders! All ages.

Design Squad Global: Thursdays from 6/15-7/20


Design, engineer, and build projects as a team, and share your work with teams across the world! This program requires weekly attendance over six weeks. Ages 8-13, please register.


Move and Groove: Mondays at 6:30 p.m.


Ages 2+ can join Kelly for some fun with stretching, dancing, singing and, of course, a lesson or story. No registration required.


Toddler Time: Tuesdays at 9:30 and 10 a.m.


Toddlers 18 months to 3 years old and a caregiver are invited to join us as we introduce literacy and a love of books through storytelling, rhymes, songs and crafts. No registration required.


Preschool Story Time: Wednesdays at 9:30 and 10 a.m.


Preschoolers ages 3 to 5 years are invited to join us as we share stories, rhymes, songs, games and crafts. No registration required.


Evening Story Time: Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.


Families are invited to listen to stories, participate in songs and rhymes, and make a craft. No registration required.


Friday Story Time: Fridays at 10 a.m.

Baby Lapsit: Fridays at 11 a.m.


A time for babies 0-18 months and their caregivers to play and grow through songs, short stories, nursery rhymes, and other developmental activities. No registration required.
