Here are some things to do in the area through the next week.

Birds and Bikes - Saturday, May 20 from 8-10 a.m. on the Raccoon River Valley Trail from Minburn to Perry. A DCCB naturalist will lead a bike ride on the Raccoon River Valley Trail beginning at the Minburn Depot and travel north to the Caboose in Perry. This will be a leisurely ride with frequent stops to look and listen for spring arrivals. This includes the wetland area at Voas Nature Area which should be busy with a wide variety of water birds. Binoculars will be provided, bikes will not. Please register for this free event.

State Track Meet - Thursday, May 18 through Saturday, May 20 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. Many athletes from Dallas County will be participating on the Blue Oval for a chance to call themselves State Champion. For a complete schedule and more information, visit www.iahsaa.org or www.ighsau.org. The cost is $10 per day for people “school age” and up.

Graduation Ceremonies - Three area schools will hold their graduation ceremonies this weekend. Head out and see your friends and family receive their high school diplomas. A-D-M's graduation commencement will be Sunday, May 21 at 2 p.m. at the High School Gym in Adel. Van Meter's Graduation will be on Sunday, May 21 at 2 p.m. in the High School Gym in Van Meter. Woodward-Granger's graduation will be on Sunday, May 21 at 2 p.m. in the High School Gym in Woodward. Waukee's graduation will be on Monday, May 22 at 7 p.m. at the Knapp Center in Des Moines.
