Two Iowa non-profit organizations have teamed up to make a big impact in Waukee. Relay Iowa, as a result of their fundraising efforts from the 339 mile relay across Iowa, has donated $5,000 to Drew’s Crew for Kids, a Waukee based organization that supports local underprivileged youth in their ability to participate in enrichment activities.

Relay Iowa, the longest running relay in the world, completed its eighth annual run in June with 42 teams, 460 total runners, running 339 miles from Sioux City to Dubuque to raise money for Relay Iowa’s designated charities.

The $5,000 donation to Drew’s Crew is the largest single donation received by Drew’s Crew since it was formed less than a year ago and will be used to assist local families with program and activity registration fees and equipment expenses in athletics, arts, academic and social activities for pre-school through high school students.

Both organizations draw their inspiration from hardships in life and a passion for children. The partnership exemplifies the mantra of Relay Iowa. “Relay Iowa has become a metaphor for a life well lived. It is not a race to the finish, but an extended relay of individuals journeying closely together, sustaining each other as they stretch the limits of their physical endurance, test their mental toughness and draw upon their emotional well in a place beyond their comfort zones, for the sole purpose of improving the life of another human being.”
