The 38th Annual Sweet Corn Festival is this weekend in Adel, so, here are three things to do as a part of the big event. For details about all of the events going on, check out the Dallas County News’s Sweet Corn Festival tab in this week’s issue.
1. A-D-M All-Alumni Reunion. Thursday, Aug. 10 from 4-9 p.m. at the A-D-M School Commons. Traditionally held on the weekend of the Sweet Corn Festival, all gradutes from A-D-M schools get together to reminisce. The A-D-M Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony happens at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.
2. Sweet Corn Festival 5K Run. Saturday, Aug. 12 at 8 a.m. starting and ending at the corner of North 11th Street and Court Street. To register for this race, visit www.adelsweetcorn5k.com. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third overall in both men’s and women’s categories. There will also be awards for different age groups and for best corn-related costume.
3. Eat Sweet Corn until your heart’s content. Saturday, Aug. 12, immediately following the parade (about 11 a.m.) on the square. Eat as much free Deardorff sweet corn as you can handle while supplies last. They usually run out by mid afternoon, so plan to arrive early.
