If you’re looking for ways to get into the holiday spirit, here are three things to do in the Dallas County Area that fit the bill.
1. Second Annual Sips and Snacks Holiday Tour - Van Meter
Friday, Dec. 1 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. with live entertainment at 8 p.m. Presented by the Van Meter Community Development Corporation, the tour begins and ends at the Veterans Reception Center with hors d’oeurves and drinks provided by local Van Meter businesses. A $5 entry fee per person goes into the 50/50 raffle. Additional raffle tickets are available at the Veterans Reception Center during the tour or may be purchased at EBank or at The Law Shop Skogersons McGinn LLC.
2. Waukee WinterFest
Friday, Dec. 1 starting at 4:30 p.m. in the Downtown Triangle area in Waukee. The Waukee Triangle Businesses will host open houses starting at 4:30 p.m. with the rest of the festivities kicking off at 6 p.m. when Santa Claus and Waukee Mayor Bill Peard light the WinterFest Holiday Tree.
Kids can visit Santa at the Waukee Community Center, watch an ice sculptor create holiday pieces, enjoy hot coca and cookies, make are with the Waukee Area Arts Council, hear caroler and participate in a scavenger hunt. There will also be an old-fashioned trolley with the annual WinterFest Light Tour.
Attendees are encouraged to donate unwrapped toys or non-perishable food items to Waukee Area Christian Services, which can be dropped off at the Waukee Community Center during WinterFest or at the Public Works Building from Dec. 4-8.
3. Adel Sip and Sample.
Friday, Dec. 1 from 5-8 p.m. Downtown Adel. Visit local Adel businesses for treats and holiday beverages. You can even take the recipes with you when you leave to make your favorites at home.
4. Minburn Soup Supper.
Saturday, Dec. 2 from 5-7 p.m. at Minburn United Methodist Church. $5 for adults, $3 for kids ages 5-12 and free for kids ages 4 and under. All proceeds go towards the Minburn 4th of July Celebration.
5. Grimes Holiday Celebration.
Sunday, Dec. 3 from 4-6 p.m. at the Grimes Community Complex, 410 Southeast Main Street. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there to see the children, along with refreshments, holiday music, games and performances by local groups.
