An accident report by the Iowa State Patrol has detailed the crash last Saturday that involved a Dallas County Sheriff’s vehicle at the corner of County Highways P58 and F31 near the Washington Township School building.

According to the report, Dallas County Deputy Sheriff, Aaron Sanchez was responding to an emergency, operating the sirens and lights of the fully marked Sheriff vehicle, traveling north on P58, approaching Minburn Road.

Sanchez moved to the left lane to pass a vehicle operated by Paul Snyder, age 69, of Perry, when Sanchez attempted to turn onto Minburn Road and collided with the Sheriff’s vehicle driven by Sanchez.

The vehicle operated by Sanchez entered the ditch and came to rest in a gravel driveway while the vehicle operated by Snyder spun out and came to rest in the west ditch, facing south.

Although the airbag in the Sheriff’s vehicle was deployed, no injuries were reported in the accident. Damage was reported at approximately $10,000 to the Sheriff’s vehicle and approximately $5,000 to Snyder’s vehicle.
