Burlington police are continuing to investigate a shooting early Thursday on South Hill in which a 25-year-old man was shot in the ear.

Lt. Greg Allen, commander of Burlington's criminal investigation division, said officers responded about 4 a.m. to the 1000 block of Maple Street on a report of shots being fired.

When officers arrived, they found "evidence of a shooting" behind a residence in the 800 block of Maple Street.

"Officers interviewed potential witnesses at the residence," he said. "A 25-year-old male from the residence was transported to Great River Medical Center by Burlington ambulance to be treated for a gunshot wound to his ear. The injury did not appear to be life threatening."

No arrests had been made late Thursday in connection with the shooting.

Further details of the shooting were not released by Allen, who indicated the investigation is continuing.

Thursday's shooting was the second in the past week in Burlington.

"On Jan. 8 at 10:23 p.m. Burlington Police and Burlington Fire Department Ambulance responded to 1003 Summer St. (Gasland) in reference to a victim with a gunshot wound," Allen said.

When officers arrived at the convenience store, they discovered a 16-year-old male who was suffering a gunshot wound to the hand. He was transported by ambulance to Great River Medical Center for treatment.

"The victim initially advised police that he was robbed and the suspect shot him during the robbery," Allen said. "Officers located the location of the incident several blocks from where the incident was reported to authorities."

Allen said officers investigating the shooting determined it was "intentional and the victim consented to being shot in the hand by another 16-year-old juvenile that knew the victim."

He declined to provide further details, saying the investigation is ongoing and criminal charges are pending.

Allen asked anyone with information about either shooting to contact the Burlington Police Department at (319) 753-8375 or Burlington Area CrimeStoppers at (319) 753-6835.

A $1,000 reward is being offered.
