Students at Waukee High School, Prairieview School and Timberline School joined a national movement on Friday, April 20. Students across the nation participated in National Walk Out Day to protest gun violence.

The protest, which was planned by students, began at about 10 a.m. when the high school students made their way out of the school and across to Waukee Stadium where students spoke to the audience before the students made their way back to class after about 30 minutes.

Students were not required to participate in the walk-out protest.

Since the protest was student led and student planned, the Dallas County News was required to stay off school grounds during the protest. Students, staff and administrators were not available for comment afterwards.
