Two Burlington High School students took home several awards after competing in two science fairs.

Abby Wittkamp and Sara Dodge competed March 17 at the Eastern Iowa Science and Engineering Fair in Cedar Rapids. With their project, "An Innovative Approach to the Detection of Ringworm," they earned Class I in the senior division.

They also competed March 22 at the State Science and Technology Fair of Iowa at Iowa State University, where they won the following awards: second place in the senior division microbiology; Society for In Vitro Biology Award; Grand Award Honorable Mention; Grand Award International Science and Engineering Fair Trip to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The BHS Science Olympiad team also saw success, placing fifth in the State Science Olympiad Competition April 7 at Coe College.

Team members are seniors Hannah Brown, Vidya Mullangi and Micah Henman; juniors Bhavya Vats and Lauren Willson; sophomores Peighton Davis, Molly Nelson, Megan Mickael, Jaden Reed and Katie Kanaan; and freshmen Angela Remmers and Taylor Holan-Neff.

Vats and Mullangi earned a third place medal in Thermodynamics and another third place medal in Ecology.

Willson and Nelson earned a third place medal in Write It, Do It.
