1. Root Beer Float Day
Visit Waukee Hy-Vee on Saturday, May 19 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. for Root Beer Float day and help support the Special Olympics Iowa. Root Beer Floats made with A&W Root Beer and Whitey’s ice cream will be sold for a suggested $1 donation. One-hundred percent of the donations will go to the Special Olympics.
2. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes
Saturday, May 19 from 9-11 a.m. in Adel. This event asks men to literally walk one mile in women’s high-heeled shoes around the historical downtown district of Adel. The event is a playful opportunity for men to raise awareness in their community about the serious causes, effects and remediations to men’s sexualized violence against women. The walk will start and end with a small presentation with keynote speakers and an opening address, and prizes will be raffled off during the ending presentation. Festivities and registration begin at 9 a.m. with the walk starting at 10. There will also be live music. All proceeds from the event goes directly to the sexual abuse survivors in the form of direct client assistance.
3. Grimes Public Works Open House
Saturday, May 19 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at 1700 Southeast Destination Drive in Grimes. Stop in and see the newly-remodeled public works facility.
