Burlington police are investigating a shooting that occurred Wednesday afternoon on North Hill when a 60-year-old man was allegedly shot by his 43-year-old female roommate.
Sgt. Joe Larkins, a Burlington police spokesman, said officers were dispatched about 5 p.m. to a reported shooting at 1203 N. Eighth St.
According to Larkins, when officers arrived they learned the man had been shot by his roommate during an altercation at their residence.
Larkins said when police arrived on the scene, the man who was shot had already left the area. Police later located the man at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, where he was being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The names of the two people involved in the domestic disturbance will not be released until members of the Burlington Police Department's criminal investigation division can interview those involved.
Authorities said a key question investigators have to determine is if the woman fired the handgun in defense or anger.
According to Larkins, no one was in custody late Wednesday.
He said the investigation is continuing and charges could be filed at a later date.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Burlington police at (319) 753-8362.
