The Dallas County Fair is right around the corner and the fair board as well as the Dallas County Extension are both busy preparing for all the festivities. The fair will run from July 11-15 at the Dallas County Fairgrounds in Adel.
To all attendees, the fair will officially start on Wednesday, July 11 with the 4-H and FFA horse show followed by the Statics Exhibition opening for viewing at 6 p.m at the Community Building. The livestock judging contest will also be held the first evening of the fair starting at 8 p.m. in the Show Ring.
County Youth Coordinator Aleta Cochran says she looks forward to viewing the Statics Exhibit every year.
“I am always impressed by what these 4-H kids do and how skilled they are,” Cochran said.
The next several days will consist of even more 4-H and FFA shows including sheep, goat, beef, cat and dog.
On Thursday, July 12 there will be $1 carnival rides for all kids in attendance as well as pony rides near the gazebo. That evening will be the Junior Rodeo and Mutton Busting competition at the South Arena starting at 7 p.m.
Following the main event, DJ RW Smith will be playing in the South Arena as well and admission is free.
On Friday, July 13 beginning at 2 p.m. the 4-H working exhibitions will be available for viewing at the Community Building. From 6 - 8 p.m. attendees can play Bingo at the Varied Industries Building or head to the South Arena starting at 7 p.m. to watch Bull Riding and Barrel Racing put on by Double S Bull Company.
Following the bull riding there will be a live performance by artist Jason Earl that is free to everyone.
On Saturday night starting at 7 p.m. there will be Figure 8 and Circle Track Racing that attendees may watch on the North Track followed by a fireworks show put on by Farm Bureau. Ending Saturday night’s activities will be a free live performance by Farm Rock at the Entertainment Plaza.
On Sunday the public can participate in or watch the Bags Tournament located at the Entertainment Plaza and beginning at 1 p.m.
At the same time the Livestock Auction will be held in the Show Ring followed by the opening of the carnival.
Ending the fair will be the IAMO Tractor and Local Stock Pickup Pull held on the North Track and starting at 6 p.m. Afterwards there will be a fireworks show put on by the Dallas County Fair.
Tickets to all of the grandstand shows are $10 for adults and $7 for ages 6-12.
