The Des Moines County Historical Society, in its August newsletter to members, announced a capital campaign to raise $325,000 before year's end to cover the cost of needed roof, gutter and skylight work.

According to the newsletter, foundation contributions have already provided $136,000. The historical society is soliciting the rest from individual supporters with a goal of raising the full amount by the end of November.

The 120-year-old building has been experiencing problems with leaks, resulting in the use of buckets to collect drips and other unsightly methods to prevent water damage.
