1. Annual book sale
10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10 through Tuesday, Aug. 14 at Adel Public Library.
Come join us at our annual Friends of the Adel Public Library Foundation book sale starting at 10 a.m. on Aug. 10 and running through Thursday, Aug. 16. If you are a member of the Friends Foundation, you can shop at the book sale starting on Thursday, Aug. 9. All proceeds benefit the Friends of the Adel Public Library Foundation.
2. Movies in the Park
8:45 - 10:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10 at Centennial Park.
Enjoy the sixth year of Hollywood’s biggest hits under the stars with Movies in the Park, provided for free by the Waukee Parks and Recreation Department and the Park Board. “The Greatest Showman” (PG) will be shown on Friday, Aug. 10. The film is 1 hour and 45 minutes long. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and refreshments.
3. Adel Sweet Corn Festival
8 a.m. - 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11 in downtown Adel.
The 39th annual Sweet Corn Festival will return to Adel on Saturday, Aug. 11. The festivities kick off at 8 a.m. with a 5K run, followed by the parade at 9:30 a.m. The parade will start at 18th and Main and run to 11th Street. Food, craft, art and information vendors will be set up from 9-5 p.m. around the Dallas County Courthouse Square. Free corn will be served from 11 a.m. until gone. Free entertainment will be held from 12-4 around the square, along with a car show. Kids games will be from 11-3 p.m. at Court and 10th Street.
