Randy Carter of Fort Madison was killed when trying to cross old U.S 61.

FORT MADISON - A 64-year-old Fort Madison man was killed about 8:30 p.m. Saturday after being T-boned by an oncoming truck while riding his motorcycle.

Randy Carter was stopped near mailboxes on the side of the road while riding his 2007 Harley Davidson on the west side of the two-lane highway old U.S 61. Carter then attempted to cross both lanes to enter a private drive on the east side of the highway. He was hit by a southbound Chevy Silverado pick-up truck driven by 29-year-old Jonathon Witt of Burlington. The accident occurred south of the U.S. 61 on-ramps.

According to a report filed by Iowa State Patrol, Carter failed to yield to the oncoming truck. According to Fort Madison's Pen City Current, Carter died on the scene before a medical helicopter arrived.

No further information was available Sunday.
