WAYLAND — A ribbon cutting ceremony for a new fitness center in Wayland will be at 1 p.m. Friday at 706 N. Pearl St.

Construction on the Kaufman Athletic Training and Fitness Center began in March, thanks to a donation by the Mark and Mary Ann Kaufman Foundation. The amount given has not been released.

The ceremony will include a ribbon cutting, facility tours and remarks by Mark Kaufman, CEO and president of Athletico Ltd. and a 1982 graduate of Waco High School. The about 9,000-square-foot facility houses a weight room, football locker room, additional locker rooms and bathrooms, laundry and storage areas, a training room and a fitness center. Community memberships will be available for use of the fitness center, but use of the weight room will be exclusively for students.

A public open house for the facility will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 14.
