Each year for 40 years, specialists from across the state have taught southeast Iowa residents about current forestry issues.

This year the tradition continues as Iowa State University Extension and Outreach of Lee County, Iowa DNR and the Iowa Woodland Owners Association will host a 40th Anniversary Forestry Field Day from 8:30 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Upper Campground in Shimek State Forest, 33653 Route J-56, Farmington.

The program will give a coppicing review and forest health update, and topics also will cover mid-contract management; invasive plants and shrubs in CRP; tree of the year, and conifer options.

Lunch will be served. Program cost is $15 per participant payable the day of the event.

Register by Sept. 26 by calling Whitney at Lee County ISU Extension Office at (319) 835-5116 or email weisinge@iastate.edu.
