You did it! The kids participating in the Fizz, Boom, Read Summer reading program read over 5,000 hours. That beat last year’s record of 4,414 total hours read. Miss Laura and Miss Paula held up their promise to dress up in wacky costumes if the kids beat last year’s total, by dressing up as Cookie Monster and a Hershey chocolate kiss!

Our next Garage Sale of the summer is Friday, August 30th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Saturday August 31st from 10:00 am to noon. All proceeds from the monthly garage sales are used by the Friends of the Adel Public Library Foundation for special projects and programs at the library.
Book Clubs are a great way to meet new people and share the love of reading. During the summer the library has two monthly adult book clubs that are open to everyone. The Brown Bag Book Club meets on Thursday, August 14th at noon to discuss a book of your choice. This is a fun way to share your favorite book or author. The Evening Book Club meets on Thursday, August 28th at 7:00 pm to discussWild: from lost to found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed. This best-selling memoir is being made into a movie starring Reese Witherspoon with a release date in December.
Come to the library on Friday, August, 1st between 10:00 am and noon and you can Touch a Truck. We’ll have various trucks, tractors, fire engines, and school busses on hand in the Adel City Hall parking lot for kids to explore. Thanks to the City of Adel, the Adel Fire Department, A-D-M Schools, Ashley and Matt Pelzer, and John Finneseth for lending their time and equipment to this event.
Our annual Lego Building Contest for all school-aged kids will be on Tuesday, August 5th from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. Come and let your imagination run wild as you design and build great things. Awards will be given in many categories to celebrate your designs. Lego creations need to be built at the library.
