The library is excited to partner with the Iowa Center for the Book, the State Library of Iowa, and the Miniature Book Society by hosting their travelling miniature book exhibit throughout October. Rod Stanley will present a program called Ghost Towns of Dallas County just in time for Halloween. Rod will talk on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 6:30 p.m. about towns that used to exist in Dallas County. Our very popular annual Friends of the Adel Public Library Bake Sale will be on Friday, Oct. 25 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Goodies can be dropped off during normal business hours on Thursday, Oct. 24 or before 9 a.m. on Friday. On the same day we’ll be having our last Garage Sale of the season. The Garage sale will also be open on Saturday Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to noon. Remember, all proceeds from these two sales are used by the Friends of the Adel Public Library for special projects and programs at the library.
Our Book Clubs have been reading lots of interesting books lately and are always welcoming new people. The library has two monthly adult book clubs that are open to everyone. The Brown Bag Book Club meets on Thursday, Oct. 10 at noon to discuss bestselling author Adriana Trigiani’s book "The Shoemaker’s Wife." Our Evening Book Club meets on Thursday, Oct. 24 to discuss. Join our Exercise Group three mornings each week and get your morning started in a fit and healthy way. The exercise group meets Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at 9 a.m. every week. Fans of reading and a certain galaxy far, far away have reason to rejoice: Star Wars Reads Day in coming soon to a library near you! Star Wars Reads Day is, "a day-long celebration of literacy and Jedi, Sith, Wookiees, and all things Star Wars". Come to the library on Friday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. for an out of this world Star Wars party!
We are having so much fun during our weekly kid’s activities. Every Magnificent Monday at 4 p.m. we’ll have a different activity; the first Monday of the month is Lego League, the second Monday is a Mad Science group, the third Monday we’ll play Board Games, and the fourth Monday is a Crafternoon. All school aged kids are welcome to come and have fun at your library!
Story Time for ages 3-5-year-olds will meet on Mondays, Toddler Time for children three and under will be held on Tuesdays, while Music Time for all preschoolers will meet on Thursdays. The first Thursday of each month will be a special LEGO: Duplo Story time instead of Music Time. Each class will begin at 10:30 a.m. and is sure to be lots of fun. The library will have two Early Out Activities for all school-aged children in October. The first one will be on Wednesday, Oct. 10, come watch "Rise of the Guardians" on the big screen, and we’ll provide the popcorn! On Wednesday, Oct. 23 we’ll be doing fun Halloween Crafts at 2 p.m. in the community room. The next Teen Advisory Board meeting for the fall will be on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 4 p.m. Teen Read Week is Oct. 13-19 and teens caught reading in the library during this week will get a special treat.
