Dallas Center residents will join thousands of other Iowans in a one kilometer (7.5 city blocks) Healthiest State Walk at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9.
Walkers will meet at the Raccoon River Valley Trailhead in Dallas Center.
To help increase Iowa’s ranking from the ninth healthiest state in the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, five focus priorities include: decreasing the number of Iowans who smoke, increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables, increasing the number of Iowans who are learning/doing something interesting each day, increasing the number of those who visit the dentist in the past year and also increasing the number of working Iowans who feel like their boss treats them like a partner at work.
In 2011, Governor Terry Brandstad and Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds announced the plan to make Iowa the healthiest state in the nation within five years.
