Genesis Development recently marked 40 years of providing service to those with disabilities and will be hosting an open house in Adel to honor their years of service.
The event will take place at 2111 West Green Street on Friday, Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Community members are welcome to join for a free meal, a tour of the Genesis facilities and to look at what Genesis does for people with disabilities in Dallas County.
In addition to their office in Adel, Genesis also offers an office and mental health clinic in Perry and a group-living home in Waukee.
Over the past 40 years, Genesis has grown from a small, sheltered workshop providing services from rented space at the Greene County Fairgrounds in Jefferson to a statewide organization with eleven office locations. Over 400 staff members across the state provide services to more than 1,800 people in their own homes, 33 group-living homes, four work centers, seven Discovery programs, four school systems, a mental health clinic, and a multitude of local businesses where people are mastering new job skills and maintaining jobs in their communities. "Many things have changed over the past 40 years," said Genesis CEO, Terry Johnson. "But our mission has remained the same. We create opportunities, choices, and support for people with disabilities so they can become as independent as their abilities will allow."
