Erica Baier, a sophomore at Adel-De Soto-Minburn and a member of the Earlham FFA Chapter, was named state champion during the 85th Iowa FFA Leadership Conference in Ames recently.
Baier participated in the Ag Sales Event by placing in the top two at both sub-district and district competitions. She then was named the state champion after making a sales presentation at the state contest. Baier also earned a state runner-up Proficiency Award in the specialty crop division and was named a top five finalist State Rising Star.
Other accomplishments included:
• Noah Taylor with a State runner-up finish in extemporaneous speaking and gold in the farm business management competition;
• Sophie Hansen who earned third place in overall chapter activity exhibit and gold in the farm business management competition;
• Members Daielle James, Rachel Hoy and Hannah Taylor earned a silver rating at state as part of the parliamentary procedure team.
• FFA members Mackenzie Felt and James were also awarded their Iowa FFA degrees. Felt earned a silver rating in the job interview portion of the competition.
Thirty Earlham FFA members participated in the two-day event under the direction of Earlham’s Ag Advisor Charlie Fitzgerald.
