The West Des Moines Police Department will be holding their 13th Police Citizen Academy from March 4 through May 27 every Tuesday night from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
The academy will consist of 12, three-hour sessions conducted on a weekly basis with a ride-along with a patrol officer. The program is located at the West Des Moines Law Enforcement Center, 250 Mills Civic Parkway, West Des Moines.
Applicants must be 18-years-old or older, live or work in West Des Moines, and have no history of criminal behavior as well as pass a background check. Class size is limited to 25 applicants and a course fee is $25.
The deadline to sign up is Feb. 19.
During the sessions, citizens will learn first-hand about police operations and achieve a better understanding of today’s law enforcement functions, challenges, and opportunities. The comprehensive instruction covers different areas addressed by law enforcement and have been designed to provide an interactive format. Instructors are certified police officers, supervisors, and other personnel with expertise in various areas.
