We had a very successful Raccoon River Days and the kickoff of the Farmer’s Market season. Downtown Van Meter was hopping with games, rides and the parade. Later that night kids enjoyed laser tag, a rock climbing wall, live music and fireworks. The library alone had more than 150 people through the door. The Van Meter Baptist Church had a replica of their church and their float said, "We welcome all visitors." Then on the float was someone dressed as "The Van Meter Visitor" of 1903. It was awesome! So I just wanted to say great job.

Summer reading has also begun! This is for ages Preschool through High School. We will also be having a craft, game and story time each Saturday during the Farmer’s Market.

Next week we will have the knitting, crocheting group meet on Thursday. at 6:30 p.m. on June 13. Please let me know if you plan on attending.

The book club is going to be on June 27 since Jolena will be in Ames the week before. We are reading "The Van Meter Visitor". So be sure to come and discuss this book. Who knows maybe someday the mystery will be solved. We will meet at the library at 7 pm. I would also love it if any of the relatives to the men in the story wanted to share information came to the book club. See you then.

We have had some 1960-1980s books from the Van Meter school given to the library. Thank you, Mrs. Jones. We are still looking for 1961 and a few others. Also any Van Meter history you are not sure what to do with can be given or donated to the library. I am currently having someone professional scan all the old photos and history of Van Meter. This way we have it several places. Thank you to everyone who have responded.

Here are a few DVDs that are new to our library: "Sandlot", "Sandlot II", "Criminal Minds" Season 7, several of the "James Bond" movies, "Flo" and several more.

Adult books: "Control" by Glen Beck, a second copy of "Killing Lincoln" by Bill O’Reilly, "Inferno" by Dan Brown (we have a list on this), "Eva Braun" biography, William Kruger books, "The Retirement Home Mystery" series, books on free masons, new home decorating books and more.

Young adult: Frank Perretti’s "Wounded", Brandon Sanderson books, Robert Jordan’s "Wheel of Time" series books 1-6, books on UFO’s and space.

Junior Fiction: more "Hardy Boy’s" books, "Zed", Poetry books, "Boink and Gollie" books, more Gary Paulsen books etc.
