Go BULLDOGS! Our boy’s basketball is 8-0 and our girl’s basketball is 7-2! This is awesome. Be sure to come out and support Van Meter Bulldogs!
When you read this it will be a NEW YEAR 2014! What are you looking forward to in the new year? In my last article I said one of my goals is to be outside a lot more. So even on the coldest and hottest days I am going to ride my bike. Ice will stop me, but hopefully nothing else. We have a few books on bikes and biking. Also I would recommend some of our fishing, camping, snow boarding and other outdoor books.
The other item I want to do more of is reading Western, Pioneer and Young Adult books. I think I will shoot for 26 this year. That is a low number but it allows some leeway! You can be sure the library has plenty of these! Last but not least I want this year to be without soda pop. I only drink Sierra Mist now and not often but I want to go pop free. Set doable goals and you would be surprised. I have learned this from a wise friend. Well on Christmas Day we did open from 1-5 p.m. We had 13 people in to either skype or use our free wifi. We will being doing this next Christmas for sure. It was successful! It was very festive and what the Christmas Spirit is truly about.
This coming week for New Years we are closed Tuesday and Wednesday. I hope you all have a safe one and travel safely.
Beginning Jan. 1 -31 is Super Hero month. I chose "Wonder Woman" and Michelle chose "Robin". Pick your favorite super hero and be one. What are the qualities you like in the Super Hero you chose? Michelle and I will be bringing comics and books to share with the kids and adults. Through out the month we will have special food too. Wear your Super Hero shirts to the library and let’s talk!
Don’t forget Adult Winter Reading program starts in January and goes through February. Stop in and sign up. We will have great prizes that we will be drawing for at the end of February. These will be from area businesses in Van Meter. Crocheting and knitting will be Jan. 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the library and Jan. 16 is book club at 7 p.m. at the library.
We are having a special book club for Jan. 2 at 7 p.m. for sci/fi and fantasy lovers. We decided bring the current book you are reading or your favorite and share with others. This is for all ages as many of you are still home on break.
It will be fun to see what we are all reading!
New DVDs that are in "Dr. Who" - the first complete series, "Percy Jackson and Sea of Monsters", "X-Men First Class", "Breaking Bad" - Seasons one and two, "Dragon Hunters and "Escape From Planet Earth" to name a few!
We also have many new children’s fiction books coming in. I would like to mention here to please check out our cook books: We have "The Pioneer Woman’s Holiday Cook book", "Gluten-Free on a Shoe String", "The Wheat-Free Cook ( Gluten-Free Recipes for Everyone), "Simply Sugar and Gluten- Free, "Betty Goes Vegan" and "Veganomicon" - The Ultimate Vegan Cookbook. We also have many others so come in and check one out to try something different to cook up for the family.
We also have 2014 library calendars that are one page and have our information on them. These have 100 ways to praise your child on them. They are free so let me know if you can’t get in and I will bring it to you.
Happy New Year!
