Kenneth Reese Petersen, 88, passed away Monday March 6, 2017, at Trinity Center at Luther Park in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 10, 2017, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Urbandale. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 9, and from 10-11 a.m. Friday, March 10, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.


Kenneth was born to Henry and Alma Petersen on Oct. 24, 1928. He graduated from Wilton Junction High School in 1946. Ken married his high school sweetheart, Rosalie Masterson, on May 16, 1948. They moved to Grimes, Iowa when Ken began his long career in the insurance business.


In 1967, Ken and his brother Leroy started Petersen and Petersen Insurance Agency. Ken continued to be involved in the agency well into his later years. Ken was an active member of his church and community. He was a sportsman and especially enjoyed fishing. Ken was the founding father of the FFF (Fellowship of Friendly Fishermen). He and Rosalie enjoyed golf, playing cards and travel associated with his business. Of all his many accomplishments, Ken was most proud of his family. Spending time with them was his greatest joy.


Ken was preceded in death by his parents and three of his four brothers. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Rosalie; his children, Cynthia (Charles) Menke of Columbia, Mo., Kenneth L. Petersen of Grimes, Vicky (Dana) Myers, of Des Moines, Paul (Beverly) Petersen of Grimes, and Kent (Mony) Petersen of Grimes, his brother, Wilbert (Elvina) Petersen of Williamsburg, Iowa, twelve grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
