Dorothy Ory, 95, of Earlham, died Friday, June 23, 2017, at Westbridge Care and Rehab in Winterset.


A visitation will be held from 2-7 p.m., Tuesday, June 27, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, with family present to receive friends from 5-7 p.m. A funeral service will begin 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 28, at Ochiltree’s with burial immediately following in the Fairview Cemetery, rural Madison County. Memorials may be directed to the DeSoto United Methodist Church and the Earlham Fire and Rescue and online condolences can be left for the family at ochiltree.com.


Dorothy Lorraine Wolfe, daughter of Clifford and Flora (Weddle) Wolfe, was born Oct. 10, 1921. She graduated from DeSoto High School in 1938 and was married to F. Marion Ory on June 11, 1938.


Dorothy was a homemaker and farm wife all of her life, raising her boys and partnering with Marion on their farm where they raised crops and beef cattle for 70 years. She also worked as a school secretary at the DeSoto Schools and later worked 25 years at the ASC office in Adel.


She was a devoted member of the DeSoto United Methodist church where she was an active member serving with the UMW. She was also a member of the Farm Bureau and Madison County Cow Bells. Above all else, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished the time spent with her family.


Dorothy is survived by her five sons, Larry (Yvonne) Ory of Earlham, Bill (Judie) Ory of Earlham, Jack (Kathy) Ory of Overland Park, Kan., Dennis (JoAnn) Ory of Rocky Comfort, Mo., David (Ro Anne) Ory of Harrisonville, Mo.; 17 grandchildren, many great and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and host of friends.


She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marion who died Feb. 28, 2009; and her six siblings, Zola, Euva, Alvis, Corinne, Ted and Dixie.
