Richard "Dick" Oriano, 81, of Burlington, died at 9:08 AM Monday, August 6, 2018, at Great River Hospice.

Born January 26, 1937, in Monmouth, IL, he was the son of Alfred "Fred" Oriano and Virginia R. Zenzen Oriano.

August 20, 1960, he married Martha Elaine Ammer in Nauvoo, IL. They shared 54 years together.

Dick graduated from Dallas City High School. He attended Western Illinois University, earning a Bachelors in Education in 1959 and completed a Masters degree in Guidance Counseling in 1968.

Richard first taught science in Sparland, IL. He then moved to Burlington to teach science at James Madison Middle School, he was a guidance counselor at Apollo, and ultimately taught algebra at Burlington High School until his retirement in 1992 after 32 years. In addition, Dick shingled and remodeled many houses. After retirement he purchased and operated a farm in Davis County, IA.

Dick enjoyed fishing especially in Canada, playing golf and poker with friends, playing sports in his younger years; running cross country in college, watching different sports and woodworking. He loved mushroom hunting and gardening. Most of all Dick enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren, and following their activities. 

Survivors include one daughter, Cynthia Lynn (Steve) Noack of Iowa City; one son, Gregory Alan Oriano of Burlington; four sisters-in-law, Ann (Ken) Stutts of Grant Pass, OR, Shirley Ammer of Canton, MO. and, Mary Calder of Charlotte, NC, Sarah Oriano of Riverside, IA; one brother-in-law, Melvin (Wandalea) Ammer of Fort Madison; three grandchildren, Michael (fiancé, Brooke), William, and Claire; and several nieces and nephews. 

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Martha, brother Hugh, and one brother-in-law, Glen. 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh-Thielen Crematory.

Visitation will be from noon until 2:00 PM Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.

The memorial service for Mr. Oriano will be 2:00 PM Saturday, August 11, 2018, at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Susanne Smith officiating. Burial will be in Nauvoo City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for Hope Haven.
