Francene Pierce, 85, passed away December 8, 2013. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, December 12 at Van Meter United Methodist Church in Van Meter. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12 p.m. Francene graduated from Van Meter High School in 1946 and married James Pierce on May 2, 1947. She was a lifelong active resident in the community. Francene was a member of the Van Meter United Methodist Church, the Van Meter American Legion Auxiliary and the Questers. She was also employed with Meredith Publishing for 30 years before she retired to enjoy spending time with her family and traveling.
She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who cherished time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Francene will also be remembered for her optimism and great sense of humor. She enjoyed genealogy, nature, quilting, sewing, making Prayer Shawls, and baseball, especially the Cubs. Francene also enjoyed cooking, music and playing in her Bridge group.
Francene is survived by children, Jean Pierce and Brian Pierce (Sarah Schaefer); grandson, Cooper Pierce; granddaughter, Bailey Pierce; siblings, P.D. Letz (Sue Collins), Larry (Wilma) Letz and Margaret (Mike) Caskey and special friends, the Seiler Family of Van Meter. She was preceded in death by her husband, James; twin sister, Frances and brother, Dwight Letz.
