Smokers across the nation take part in the American Cancer Society Great American Smokeout on the third Thursday of November each year. Even if you miss this particular day, encourage someone you know to quit smoking for one day and make a plan to quit for good. By quitting – even for 1 day – smokers take an important step toward a healthier life and reducing their disease risk. Smokers need family and friends’ support and encouragement.

Quitting smoking has immediate and long-term benefits at any age. In addition to improved health, there are many other positive reasons to quit:

Food tastes better

Breath, clothes, and hair smell better

Healthier kids and pets

Save money

Whiter teeth

Cheaper insurance

Ready to quit? Here are some quick tips.

Take a pledge to have a tobacco-free home and/or vehicle.

Set up a good support system.
