I recently received information from the Animal Legal Defense Fund,an organization which advocates for homeless and abused animals. In the words of Harriet Beecher Stowe, "It’s a matter of taking the side of the weak against the strong, something the best people have always done." These words would be a guideline of the Animal Legal Defense Fund, which also offers hints for other things people can do to help animals in need. Here are some things you can do to help animals in need of assistance:

*Report animal cruelty and neglect, as well as stray or injured animals to your local animal shelter.

*Do not purchase products that were tested on animals.

*Donate food, blankets, towels, and time to your local animal shelter.

*Write letters to the editor of your local paper about the problem of unwanted, abused, or neglected animals.

*Contact your elected representatives and urge them to sponsor stronger laws to protect animals from cruelty.

*Share your love for animals and how to care for them properly with children. This will result in a more animal-friendly world.

If we could all take these steps to treat animals more kindly we could help reduce the amount of abuse and cruelty which so many animals face in today’s world.
