Last Monday, April 22, was Earth Day. I am asking you to join me to encourage our elected representatives to take significant action to halt climate change this year.
In 2012 there
was record heat, a severe drought, Hurricane Sandy, and other climate disasters. The spring of 2013 has seen flooding return. These are the weather patterns that scientists have predicted because of the Earth’s changing atmosphere caused by human activity. It is time for United States Congress to act.
If you are nonbeliever of human caused climate change I urge you to see the documentary movie "Chasing Ice" by James Bolog and read some of his articles. He gives the best and most convincing evidence the climate change is real and is being caused by humans.
The following actions in the United States Congress this year will help slow down climate change and give the world a chance to stop it and hopefully reverse it in the future:
Make the renewable energy tax credits permanent to encourage the development of clean energy.
End the billions of dollars in fossil fuel subsidies.
Extend greenhouse gas regulations to existing coal plants.
Adopt a carbon tax or revenue neutral carbon fee and dividend.
Invest in natural resources to help native species survive climate change.
I encourage you to do as much as you can to help solve the problem of a changing climate. Contact your legislator and request action- because every major environmental decision is a political decision. For Earth Day 2013 make a commitment to do your part in halting climate change.
