To the Editor:

Americans for Prosperity financed by the billionaire industrialists Koch brothers is funding campaign ads aimed at Senate candidate Bruce Braley. Do Iowans really want out-of-state zealot billionaires deciding Iowa elections?

The ads states that the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is bad for Iowans by implying that those who received "cancellation notices" of their junk policies would be without insurance. Those with "cancellation notices" were actually told that they could change to a better policy. In fact, the ACA allows those with pre-existing conditions to purchase coverage as of Jan. 1, 2014, which was previously denied to them by insurance companies.

Many junk policies omitted emergency room care, for example. So why pay the insurance company for a junk policy with only mediocre coverage? A policy holder still has the option of paying for high, medium or low deductibles from private insurance companies in the Marketplace Exchanges. Iowans who have signed up are very pleased with their options as well as the cost.
