To the Editor:

If the Republicans really want smaller government, then they should introduce bills to reduce or eliminate departments so they can be passed into law. This is clearly defined in the Constitution. Choosing a shutdown has not been a better choice.

So Republicans want to whine about divided government. From 2000-2006, Republicans had control of both the Congress and the Presidency. Republicans could have made smaller government their priority for 6 whole years. In fact, government was expanded under Republican control when Medicare Part D was signed into law. In 2012, the majority of voters voted for a divided Congress as well as to support the Affordable Care Act by reelecting Pres. Obama. So Republicans need to move on to other issues and quit damaging our economy with this shutdown.
