The Waukee cross country teams ran at the State Cross Country meet in Fort Dodge on Saturday, Oct. 29.
The Warriors boys' team finished 11th out of 15 teams with a total of 231 points. The team that took home first place was Dowling Catholic with an average time of 16:17.3.
The overall average time for the Warriors was 16:49.9. The highest placed Warrior was Senior Jackson Lewis with a time of 16:08.4. Lewis went into the State Meet ranked No. 13 in Class 4A and finished the meet in 11th.
Nathan Sanders went in ranked No. 14 in the state and placed 38th with the team placement and 48th overall during with a final time of 16:44.7. Of the 105 team runners, the seven Warriors placed 11th (Lewis), 38th (Sanders), 47th (Moe Smith), 65th (Josh Andrews), 70th (Dakota Fouts), 90th (Tyler Loecke) and 95th (Travis Loecke).
The Warriors girls' team finished seventh out of 15 teams, the team that took home first was Johnston. The girls had a total of 211 points with an average time of 19:54.4 while Johnston had a time of 18:41.6.
Karson Foley finished with a time of 19:23.5 and placed 18th of the 105 team runners and 25th individually. Foley also went into the State Meet ranked No. 26. The seven Warriors finished 18th (Foley), 42nd (Sydney Schaffer), 44th (Maggie Laird), 53rd (Isabelle Schaffer), 54th (Miranda Boyle), 55th (Lily Campbell) and 77th (Odessa Neeley) in team placements.
In the pre-season rankings, according to the Iowa Association of Track Coaches, the Warrior boys team was projected to finish in fifth place and the girls team was projected to finish in eighth. The boys were not able to fulfill this projection, but the girls did better than expected.
