The Waukee Girls' Swimming and Diving team took home first place in the Regional Meet held on Saturday, Oct. 29 in Fort Dodge.
Of the nine teams at their meet the Warriors placed first with a total of 496.5 points.
The Warriors finished first in the 200 yard medley relay. The relay made up of Maddy Bridges, Zoe Bussanmas, Kayla Rinderknecht and Kassidy Rinderknecht finished with a time of 1:48.18. Second place went to the Fort Dodge relay team who finished just two seconds behind the Warriors (1:50.23).
In the 200 yard freestyle race, all three of the Warriors finished in the top ten out of the 26 competitors. Emily Baeth finished in first place with a 1:53.12, Alex Thorson placed second with a time of 1:54.43 and Layne Collum finished in ninth with a time of 2:04.26.
Three more Warriors finished in the top ten of the 200 yard IM. Junior Kayla Rinderknecht finished in first place with a time of 2:10.51, Olivia Crouse finished right behind her in second with a time of 2:13.41 and Elle Kramer was the third Warrior to finish with a time of 2:20.67 and placed sixth out of 22.
Kassidy Rinderknecht took fourth place in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 25.13. Olivia Clark from Cedar Falls took home first place (24.24), just a little under a second before Kassidy Rinderknecht.
Once again, the Warriors had three girls in the top ten of the 100 yard butterfly. Kayla Rinderknecht finished with a 58.01, Anna Hamling finished with a time of 1:00.51 and Collum had a time of 1:04.15 putting her sixth place.
Thorson took first in the 100 yard freestyle with a finishing time of 52.39. The two other Warriors to compete in this race were Bridges who took sixth place and Kassidy Rinderknecht who placed seventh.
In the 500 yard freestyle race, the Warriors finished first, sixth and eighth. Baeth swam a 5:07.58 putting her in first place, Kendall Gillespie was the next Warrior to finish with a 5:29.43. The third Warrior to finish this race was Aditi Vaidya and her time was 5:43.08.
Of the eight teams to finish the 200 yard freestyle relay, the Warriors took home first place. The relay team was made up of Thorson, Kassidy Rinderknecht, Bussanmas and Baeth, they ended with a time of 1:38.49. Cedar Falls finished in a close second, only 0.03 seconds behind the Warriors.
Bridges placed third in the 100 yard backstroke after finishing a quarter of a second behind Fort Dodge's Katie Kieth who placed first. Bridges time was 59.78. Hamling also swam in this race with a time of 1:03.18 and finishing in seventh. With a time of 1:07.89 was last Warrior to finish, Gillespie, who placed 12th out of 24.
All within almost four seconds of each other, three Warriors finished the 100 yard breaststroke in the top ten. Bussanmas placed second with a time of 1:07.13, Crouse got third and finished with a 1:08.08 and Kramer received a time of 1:10.54 putting her in fifth place.
The last event was the 400 yard freestyle relay. Warriors Thorson, Kayla Rinderknecht, Bussanmas and Baeth finished the race with a time of 3:34.82. Second place was taken by Cedar Falls with a time of 3:39.20.
The Warriors will be moving on to the State Swimming and Diving Meet held on Nov. 4 and 5 at the Marshalltown YMCA/YWCA.
