The Dallas Center-Grimes wrestling team hosted their annual DC-G Mustang Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 3. There were 13 teams that competed at the tournament

The Mustangs placed 8th as a team, with a total of 117.5 points. First place ended up going to Creston/Orient Macksburg with a total of 208 points.

Ayden Kovaleski went 2-2 in the tournament and placed 7th in the 113 pound weight class. Kovaleski had a first round bye in the first championship round. He automatically got to move onto the quarterfinal round against Ankeny Centennial's Noah Blubaugh. Blubaugh won over Kovaleski by fall in 3:40. The next round was the consolation round two where Kovaleski received another bye. In the semi-consolation round Kovaleski wrestled Payton Drake (Prairie City-Monroe), but was pinned again. The final match for Kovaleski was the 7th place match. He won by fall over Cade Neuman of Carroll in 4:57. Overall, Kovaleski scored four team points for the Mustangs.

In the 120 pound weight class, Drew Kearney wrestled for the Mustangs. Kearney went 4-1 in the tournament, placed 5th and scored nine team points. Just like Kovaleski, Kearney received a bye in the round one of the championship rounds. In the quarterfinal round, Kearney wrestled Hunter Pfantz from West Marshall. Pfantz won by fall over Kearney in 1:47. In the consolation round 2 Kearney pinned Luke Latham from Creston/Orient Macksburg and moved onto the Consolation semifinal round. Kearney won the semifinal round by decision (6-1) over Nevada's Cale Dumbaugh. Kearney's final match of the tournament was the 5th place match. Kearney won in a sudden victory-1 over Christian Milligan (Des Moines East).

Max Tracy wrestled at 126 pounds for the Mustangs and placed first in his weight class earning the team 27.50 points. In the first championship round Tracy wrestled Connor Reicks of Carroll and won by a technical fall in 2:57. The next match was the quarterfinal match. Tracy pinned Lucas Olson (Carlisle) 3:45 into the match. In the semifinal, Tracy beat Kelby Luther from Creston/Orient Macksburg by a fall. For the first place match, Tracy won by decision (2-1) over Brock Espalin from East.

For five team points, Ethan Kovaleski placed 8th in the 132 pound weight class. Kovaleski lost the first championship round to Cade Vicker (Creston/Orient Macksburg) by a technical fall, then received a bye in the first consolation round. Kovaleski won by fall over Kaeden VanSoelen from Prairie City-Monroe in 44 second in the second consolation round. The consolation semifinal was next for Kovaleksi. Unfortunately, he lost to Tyler Squires (Carlisle) in a major decision (14-5). In the 7th place match, Kovaleski lost to Luke Kalinay of West Marshall by a fall.

Bryce Murano was up next for the Mustangs, weighing in at 138 pounds. He placed second and scored 18 team points. Murano's first round (championship round 1) was a bye, but he won by decision (10-8) in the quarterfinal over Deville Dentis (East). Murano moved on to the semifinal round where he won by decision as well.  Murano won 14-7 over Trevor Marlin of Creston/Orient Macksburg. Murano wrestled Cooper White for first place, but lost by decision.

At 152 pounds, Zane Mulder placed second and scored 24 points for the Mustangs. In the first championship round, Mulder wrestled Isaac Ireland of Greene County and won by a fall in 1:45. Mulder moved on the the quarterfinal round, where he won by pinning Michael Lopez (East). Up next was the semifinal round, Mulder won by another fall over Bryce Murray from Carlisle. Mulder lost in the first place match to Wes Cummings (Prairie City-Monroe) by a fall.

Ben Fisher was up next. He went 3-2 during the tournament, place 5th at 160 pounds and scored 13 team points. Fisher received a bye for his first round, automatically moving him on to the quarterfinals. Unfortunately, Fisher lost in to Lucas Roland (Prairie City-Monroe) by a 7-1 decision. Fisher moved on to the second consolation round next. He wrestled Carter Bedford and won by fall in 24 seconds. In the consolation semifinal round Fisher pinned Mason Rudkin of West Marshall. With the win, he moved on to the 5th place match. Fisher won the match over Thomas Shehan of East by a fall.

At 170 pounds Rowan Collins placed 7th and scored eight team points for the Mustangs. Collins did lose by a sudden victory-1 to Drew Kirkpatrick from Interstate 35. In the first consolation round, Collins had a bye, but won in the second round by fall over Riley Nehring of Carroll 3:50 into the match. In the consolation semifinal Dale Boyer (Creston/Orient Macksburg) pinned Collins who then had to move on to the 7th place match. Collins took on Leo Tauke from Adel-DeSoto-Minburn and won by fall in 59 seconds.

Karter Jorgensen went 1-4 in the tournament scoring five team points and placing 8th at 195 pounds. In the championship round 1, Jorgensen was pinned by Rocco Miller (Webster City) and had to move on to the consolation rounds. In the first consolation round, Jorgensen had a bye, but in the second he won by fall over Dylan Delp of Carroll in 2:39. In the consolation semifinal round, Ethan Chipps (Ankeny Centennial) won by fall against Jorgensen in just 39 seconds. Jorgensen's last match was for 7th place. He wrestled against Miller once more who quickly pinned him again. 

Scoring four team points for the Mustangs was Brady Simmons. Simmons weighed in at 285 and placed 7th. The Mustang received a bye in the first championship round and moved on to the quarterfinal. Simmons lost the quarterfinal round to Cooper Lawson of Webster City by a fall. He then moved on to the second consolation round where he received a second bye. In the semifinal consolation round, Simmons was pinned by Case Tillotson (East) 4:13 into the match. His last match was the 7th place match. Simmons wrestled A-D-M's Jacob Pfiffner and won by fall.

There were three Mustangs who finished the meet with their places unknown and received zero team points. The three included Jay Goree (145 pounds), Ty Chambers (182 pounds) and Ben Beaver (220 pounds).

Overall, the team finished the DC-G Mustang Invitational with 117.5 points and placed 8th out of 13. The Mustangs next meet will be on Thursday, Dec. 8 in Indianola against Indianola and Webster City. The meet is set to start at 5:30 p.m.
