Winter break can come at a tough time for some winter sports teams. As for the Dallas Center-Grimes wrestling team, Coach Clint Knoll believes this break can be a good thing for his team.

Winter break is almost directly in the middle of wrestling season.

“Break comes at a good time for our team,” said Knoll. “We go pretty hard right before break and have some tough competition. The physical and mental break is welcomed.”

The Mustangs' coaching staff have taken this time to focus on teaching and focusing on three main things. The first thing that Knoll has his team focus on is their technique. After their technique has improved the Mustangs work to correct the mistakes the coaching staff has seen so far this season. Lastly, they just focus on getting back into shape. which according to Knoll “doesn’t take too long.”

Knoll did mention that these are normal things that the Mustangs work on during the season, not just during break. The break just gives them extra time to focus and get things done in between meets.

With all the practicing they have done, the Mustangs are ready to get back to competing by the time break ends.

“We are ready to roll and get the second half of the season started!” said Knoll.

The Mustangs first meet after break will be on Jan. 5 against Adel-DeSoto-Minburn in Adel and will begin at 6:30 p.m.
