Van Meter's girl basketball team will take on AC/GC for the first time since Adair-Casey and Guthrie Center's consolidation.
The Bulldogs did play the Tigers of Guthrie Center last year, though. The Bulldogs won both games by a large margin.
Last season, Mackenzie Roberts led the Bulldogs in points. The now senior finished the season with 518 points and averaged 20.7 points per game. C.J. Jones, also a senior this season, was the second leading scorer. She had a total of 266 points from 35 field goals, 58 three pointers and 22 free throws.
Tigers' Morgan Meacham was the leading scorer of the season. She averaged 5.7 points per game after scoring 48 field goals and 24 free throws, for a total of 120 points. Returning junior, Mady Smith was the second leading scorer for the Tigers, she finished the season with 98 points.
Roberts and Jones led the Bulldogs in assists as well. Roberts finished the season with 74 assists while Jones had 50.
Chargers' Madision Berger led the Tigers in assists last season. She played 18 games and had a total of 19 assists.
Roberts continued to lead the Bulldogs in steals and blocks. She finished her junior year with 55 steals and 33 blocks. Once again, Jones followed Roberts in these statistics. Jones had 30 steals and 13 blocks.
Smith and Berger led the Tigers in steals. Smith had 23 steals and Berger had 16. Smith also had, by far, the most blocks for the Tigers with 11 total by the end of the season.
With 213 rebounds was Roberts once again to lead the Bulldogs. Her rebounds were comprised of 52 offensive rebounds and 161 defensive rebounds, this allowed her to average 8.5 rebounds per game. The second leader in rebounds for the Bulldogs was Ellie Folkerts with a total of 103 by the end of the season. Folkerts averaged 4.1 rebounds per game.
Now a junior for the Chargers, Meacham led the Tigers with 76 rebounds at the end of the year. She was followed by Smith who had 50 rebounds overall.
The only returner from the Bombers' 2015-2016 team is Josie Sargent, who is a sophomore this season.
The Chargers currently hold a season record of 3-5 while the Bulldogs have a 7-1 record so far. The two teams will meet for the first time tonight at 6:00 p.m. in Van Meter.
