The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Tigers hosted their annual A-D-M Tiger Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 14. Eleven teams competed, the Tigers placed 5th overall with 110 team points.
The top two Tigers of the tournament were Andrew Flora (106) and Cooper Mardesen (220).
Flora placed first in his weight class and earned the Tigers 22 team points. In his quarterfinal round, Flora pinned Sam McIntyre from Glenwood in 3:35. Flora went on to beat Johnathon Erp of Red Oak by a 9-8 decision in the semifinal round. His last match of the tournament was for first place. Flora wrestled Peyton Braunschweig of Dallas Center-Grimes and won by a 7-5 decision.
In the 220 pound weight class, Mardesen placed third overall and earned 16 points for the Tigers. In his first match, he won by fall over Kyler Medhurst (Waukee) in 3:09. Mardesen lost his next round to Zach Haggstrom from Glenwood when he was pinned in just a 1:33. The consolation semifinal round was up next for Mardesen. He won this round after pinning Nathan Lumley of Ames in 3:32. For third place, he wrestled Nate Moen (Atlantic) and won in a 3-2 ultimate tie breaker.
The Tigers had four wrestlers that placed fourth. Those four included John Thorne (120), Brodrick Schmidt (126), Caleb Buse (145) and Kaden Sutton (195). These four Tigers earned a combined 47.5 team points.
There was also one Tiger that placed fifth and three others that placed sixth at the invitational.
Overall, the Tigers had 110 points that put them in fifth place out of 11 teams. The Tigers next meet will be on Thursday, Jan 19 at 5:30 p.m. against Bondurant-Farrar and Carroll at the A-D-M high school.
