Winners of three of their last five, the Woodward-Granger Hawks (8-10 ,6-10) boys’ basketball team continued their solid play after an 87-69 home win versus the Panorama Panthers (5-13 ,5-10).
The scoring output began in the first quarter and bled in into the final three quarters. In the first the home team outgunned their guest to a tune of 18-6.
Three Hawks starters scored in double figures. Marcus McConahay, senior, scored 20 points, Bryce Achenbach, freshman, scored 18 and Spencer Hansen, senior, scored 17.
In the second the host increased their lead to 26 points after a 25-11 run. The lead was cut to 25 after the Panthers outscored the Hawks in the third 26-25.
The Panthers fought back in the final eight minutes scoring 26 points but the Hawks added 19 points to seal the 18-point victory.
As a unit the Hawks finished 34-of-72 from the floor including 4-for-10 from three, and 15-for-18 from the stripe.
They tallied 23 defensive and seven offensive rebounds (Achenbach - seven), dished out 20 assists (Achenbach - 10) 10 steals and three blocks.
